302: Other Lives, Nottingham

November 1, 2011

302/365

Nottingham is a long way from home, but Other Lives really made the long journey worth it.

190 & 191/365

July 12, 2011

190/365

This was taken at a talent show just down the road from the house. I quite like it, but I’m beginning to question the black & white.

And this one was in the car park of Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull. It looked quite cool on my Mac Mini and didn’t need any editing, but seeing it on my Macbook makes me wish it wasn’t so dark.

Photos for Kulturplatz

May 14, 2011

After a request from a guy on a Radiohead forum, last week I took lots of pictures of the King of Limbs newspaper album for a short report he was producing for Swiss TV. The brief was to take photos of the individual elements (vinyl, CD, artwork and newspaper) from above. Nothing fancy… i.e. not slanted; no angles, I believe were his words.

Anyway, it has now been on TV and, if you want, you can watch it here. The photos are mostly near the start and near the end. I had to take them outside to take advantage of the evening light, so you’ll notice our paving stones in some of the shots. I kind of assumed he’d crop those out, but what the hell.

My King of Limbs newspaper album arrived on Tuesday.

In other news, I’ve recently remembered how much I like Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. It’s a bit too long, but when it’s good, it’s fantastic. Especially the drums.

106/365: Record store day

April 22, 2011

Very pleased.

After 2 attempts, I got the last one on sale in Leamington. The songs are really good, too, which is a bonus.

Fuck digital music collections. If I can’t hold it in my hands, I don’t want it.

57/365: A genuine original

March 2, 2011

57/365

On day 57 (Saturday to you) I went for a trip to the village of Tanworth-in-Arden to take some photos and visit the grave of – and what appears to be becoming a small shrine to – the excellent Nick Drake. Ever since I was introduced to his music the album Bryter Layter has been one of my favourites and it’s truly sad that he died before getting the recognition he deserved.

Nick Drake's gravestone (back)

The back of his gravestone features a couple of lines of his lyrics.
